Should I learn JavaScript or Java First?
I know basic HTML, and I bought a book on each language. I don't know which one would be easier to learn, or in which sequence I should do.
Apples and Oranges.
JavaScript is a simple scripting language, that runs inside a web page only. It has nothing to do with Java, which is a full-fledged programming language; applets created in Java can be run inside a browser or as stand-alone apps (with the Java Runtime files installed.)
If all you want is simply to add some minor enhancements to your web pages, JavaScript is all you need.
(And please don't make the absolute beginners' move of making your web pages *depend* on what you do in JavaScript - because that way you're excluding a large part of the internet population from your site...
If you want to create actual programs, then you'll need Java.
The languages have a similar look and feel, so the learning curve should not be too different between the two - except for the fact that Java is Object Oriented, and has a lot *more* to learn...
